Newly Discovered Recordings Reveal Beatles Actually Terrible Group August 19, 2009 | Issue 45•34
LONDON—Just days after the discovery of several previously unreleased Beatles recordings in the attic of Abbey Road Studios, fans and critics across the globe have renounced their enthusiasm for the rock and roll band that was once revered by millions. "This unfortunate find has forced music historians to completely reassess the talents of John, Paul, George, and Ringo," said Beatles scholar Mark Lewisohn, who has dated the tapes to early 1968. "These songs are awful. That one sax solo alone has utterly negated the genius of Magical Mystery Tour and Rubber Soul combined. Certainly this missing link goes a long way toward explaining their solo careers." In reaction to the discovery, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys has shown dramatic signs of improved mental health.
On the day that I vanish from this earth I am going to buy every rare Beatles album out there and give them to my children to use as cup holsters.

Today marks the 40th birthday of one of the most vital factors of todays world, the Internet. Imagine a world with out e-mail, myspace, facebook, twitter, youtube, google map, hulu, ebay, and blogs?!?!?! I don't even want to think about it to be serious. Here's a video on how a professor (Leonard Kleinrock), who we have to be very thankful of, at UCLA sent the first bits of data to another from one computer to another.
So the other day I was reading about Miles Davis and John Coltranes relationship with each other. And if you are either Miles fan or a Coltrane fan or a fan of both you may know what I am talking about. Miles and Coltrane appeared on a handful of albums together, most notably Miles's Kind of Blue. So before starting a recording session Coltrane kept complaining to Miles Davis that he doesn't know when to end or how stop a solo. Miles Davis briefly responded by saying "Why don't you try taking the m*****f***** out of your mouth."

If you come up to me and ask me what I am going to do this weekend this is what I will most likely respond with. First, homework. Second, I am going to be attending the 3rd Annual Hotel Congress Record Fest presented by HocoFest 2009. Whats better than a room full of rare and collectible records? Two rooms of rare collectible records. (Haha...) Anyways, it's going to be this Saturday September 5th from 9:00am-3:00pm and it is going to be inside the Club Congress (311 East Congress Street Tucson, AZ 85701) If you are an avid record collector/digger, like to see crazy art work, or just have nothing to do from 9am-3pm on Saturday meet me there.
Any fans of Ben & Jerry's ice cream?

I am pretty sure we all agree that the people at Ben & Jerry's are very liberal. I mean come on - hippie themes, the creators being hippies, and the name itself has a hippie feel to it. Due to that liberalism and the recent enacment that allowed same sex marriage in Vermont (the company's home state) Ben & Jerry's will remane their "Chubby Hubby" ice cream (Fudge covered peanut butter filled pretzels in vanilla malt ice cream with fudge and peanut butter) to "Hubby Hubby" ice cream. Even though the container is official it would not be selling under the "Hubby Hubby" name nationwide. Which is a good news because we don't want conservatives banning Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
The Meters didn't achieve must mainstream success but are seen as one of the most influential funk bands. Rolling Stones even has two of their albums on their 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. (Look-Ka Py Py and Rejuvenation) If your in to some serious funk I really recommend this band.
While surfing some food blogs I found an interesting post. The 10 Essential Steps to the Perfect Cheeseburger by Al Dente. Here they are:
1. Use 6 oz. of meat per patty, no more and no less. Don't guess, weigh it.
2. Shape it with your hands into patties. Ignore the common advice about not "overworking" the meat.
3. Liberally salt (use Kosher salt) and pepper both sides. Salt is the glory of red meat, don't stint.
4. Make a deep thumbprint in the middle of each patty (it evens out the burger when it cooks, don't ask why).
5. Refrigerate the patties until you're ready to grill. You can salt and pepper well ahead if you'd like.
6. Make a HOT charcoal fire.
7. Liberally oil both your grill and the meat before you start.
8. For medium-rare, grill the meat EXACTLY 3 minutes on one side (grill lid closed) and 2 minutes on the other.
9. Add the cheese, cover each patty with a burger cover, and cook for 1 minute more.
10. Remove the meat and quickly grill the buns (the only civilized way to eat hamburger buns).
My mom has a habit on over cooking the first batch of burgers. This are going to come in handy.
If you read or watched the news this morning you may have known about Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy. If you don't read or watch the news well, now you know. He died of brain cancer but has been suffering from seizures since Clinton's presidency. Most of us remember the occurrence that happened during Obama's inauguration lunch. He was seen as the extremely liberal senator who was very outspoken about progressive causes and bills. But like every politician in America he also has a "wild" side. Most people know him for his Chappaquiddick incident. To sum it up he goes to a party, gets a little drunk, drives home with his so called mistress, gets on a bridge, drives of a bridge, crashes his car in the water, swims out of the water, leaves his mistress (Mary Jo Kopechne) to die in the water, goes to some house, sleeps it off, and then calls the authorities the next day to tell them about the situation. Even with this mere flaw he has been said to be one of the most beloved Senators the U.S. has ever had. Before his death he was the second most senior member of the senate, behind Robert Byrd. Time magazine selected him as one of Americas "Top 10 Senators". And for his obituary the New York Times it read: "He was a Rabelaisian figure in the Senate and in life, instantly recognizable by his shock of white hair, his florid, oversize face, his booming Boston brogue, his powerful but pained stride. He was a celebrity, sometimes a self-parody, a hearty friend, an implacable foe, a man of large faith and large flaws, a melancholy character who persevered, drank deeply and sang loudly. He was a Kennedy." Even though in my life time he wasn't of any significance Ted Kennedy will be remembered.
This clip made me remember why I fell in love with Family Guy when I was a pre-pubescent 13 year old. Not that I would get this reference if I was a pre-pubescent 13 yeard old. Yeah...
Hello party people. If you've been wondering where I have been well let me tell you I haven't been anywhere. Just here. If you would like an update about me than here you go. I got the wonderful world wide web connected back to my house about a month ago. Yes, I could have started blogging then but I've been busy. Why? Just this past month I attended a summer writing institute at the U of A and it has, luckily, kept me busy. But other than that I've been downloading music. Legally of course. For now I'm going to give you a list of albums and a few details about them.
As many of you know Atmosphere is one of my most favorite Hip-Hop acts. On July 4th, the day of our countries Independence, they released a free album. The album consist of only 7 songs. In the 1960's, 70s, or 80's this could have been considered a full length album. In today's terms, it's more like an EP. But what matters is that it was free of download just like their other purposely leaked album Strictly Leakage. The opening track "C'mon" has a very in your face feel but soon soothed with the summer feeling "They Always Know". I personally love this track. Slug's lyrics fit his thoughts about women and Ant seemed to go in a different direction with his production, but I'm liking it. "The Ropes", the following track, is a horn heavy song about a suicidal kid. "White Noise" seems to have that "ha, ha, ha, aha" feel to it. It's one of my least favorite tracks on this album. "Feel Good Hit Of The Summer Pt. 2" has a lot of production similarities with "They Always Know" in a way. It seems like Ant made those beats in the same time span and again Slug talks about his addiction to coffee, cigarettes, and sex. "Mother's Day" contains a sample 50 other producers have used and yes you guess it, it's about mothers. The last track "Millie Fell Of The Fire Escape" has a very catchy sample and has Slug telling a nice story about a girl named Millie. Overall it's a good album but when I listen to it I get upset because you can notice how Atmosphere is evolving from Lucy Ford Atmosphere. But hey, that's what art is all about. Evolving.

Over this weekend I watched a movie heavily, and I mean heavily, recommended by Alexis. Fight Club. Like many non-watchers if this movie I thought this movie was mostly going to be about...fighting. Let me tell you now that the fighting part, just see it as a tool that the movie uses to accompaniment the plot of the movie. So again, the movie is not about fighting. I'll do a little analysis of the movie later in the week. There are still some missing puzzle pieces I feel that I need to find to get the broader picture to this movie. Otherwise it was a great, well joined, contemplative movie.
Ever taken those nostalgic child hood memories of Warner Bros. cartoon characters but give it a violent yet accurate twist to it. Sort of how it would it been if Tom & Jerry was aired on HBO. UK artist James Cauty makes an exact representation of this in his laterst exhibit "Splatter" in The Aquarium in London. You would think that a person would be sick minded to be doing this kind of things but really, like every artist I enjoy blogging about, he just rebelling against pop culture.
Designer duo Andrea Grossfuss and Olaf Kiessling have designed a plate that has a solution to everyday life. The plate comes with a handle that has a special hollow to hold your wine glass. See for yourself.
So I think I just "The Kitchen of the Cool People". The New 012 kitchen design from MK Style is entirely made up from 12mm thick Corian. Doors are opened with a groove that runs the length of each, lit by cold-light-producing LED's. Gaggenau electrical appliances are set within the Corian wall units, their modern stainless steel finish echoed by the table extension of the kitchen island. Freakin slick looking if you ask me.

When time goes by slowly take the time to really see what's going on. Doing this you may see the most interesting things. Things you wouldn't of noticed if you were wining because time was going too slow. Slow progress can also be seen like this. A slow progress can be used to take time and see the things that can help when finally you make to the peak of your destination. Try not to see slow as a negative but as an advantage.
The next generation of Apple MacBooks are just around the corner for the holiday season. Even though the 160GB MacBook goes for $1,299 and the 250GB $1,599 the older MacBooks are going for under $1,000. It has new features such as a fully click-able track pad, new Nvidia graphics card, 5 hours of stated battery life and an LED back-lite screen similar to the MacBook Pro. Well, I know what I want for Christmas.
This is maybe one the coolest things I've seen a long while. Medicoms Toy's Bearbrick joined with one of my favorite Electronica groups ,Daft Punk, to create a pair off bears with their signature attire. Awesomely cute. Set to be released March 2009.
Bansky again attacks New York. Part of his rat pieces this time he shoots at the publicity channels like Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and etc give to presidential candidates around this time. Even though I am very into politics and I highly support one of the presidential candidates, most of you know who, you have to admit his arts pretty clever. He also shoots at painters commonly seen on New York skyscrapers.
That's all for today. I am currently listening to Murs's Murs for President and let me tell you, I recommend it. Today was a pleasantly good day. PSAT'S went well, we saw a movie in Mr. Reitz, found out my GPA went up, after school was wonderful, and we have two days left till Homecoming.
Yesterday, Saturday, I joined my fellow Hesperides club members on a retreat to Mt. Lemmon. It was something I was looking forward to the whole week but the little weather box in my Google homepage told me it was going to rain that day. It had a bright and sunny sun for Friday and Sunday but a big gray cloud for Saturday. Out of all the days it had to be Saturday. Me trying to be very optimistic I thought to myself "Hmm...its maybe just going to sprinkle on us". Leaving my house on Saturday morning I carried that thought in my head. Walking to school, where we had to meet up, I looked to the sky and it looked pretty nice and calm. This added more to my optimism. I said hi to everyone, said hi to Tricia, and we loaded up the vans. We started driving up to the mountain, again everything was still looking great. Getting higher, at about 6,000 ft, the sky fell on us. Or to put it in lamest terms, we were inside the clouds. Or to put in even lamest terms, there was a lot of fog. Heart of Darkness anyone. But back on track, we were fortune enough to find this spot that looked fairly calm. The only problem, it was freaking cold. Getting settled we start with a team building activity. Half way into the activity its starts to lightly rain on us. My optimism goes back to it's original stage. Two minutes later it started to hail on us. We had no other option then to run back into the van. Around ten minutes later the hail calmed down. Getting back to our activity's we finish the first one and start another one. Starting the second activity it starts to rain again, hard. At this point my optimism was just let down. The rain again calms down. We get off the vans again and Ms. Ayala starts to grill up the meat. Some people left to go hiking to wait for the food. Me and Tricia decided to take a walk. A great walk complemented with nature. Again, it started raining. We decided to go lower in the mountain. Even though we were all soaked but hungry. After feasting in steak, beans, tortillas, fruit salad, chips, the sniffles, and capri sun we started to head back to Tucson. Arriving at Pueblo we realized we were all still soaked, our sweaters mainly. But even though mother nature did not cope with us in this trip we all still managed to have fun. What other team building exercise can we ask for. With everybody's helped we managed to have a lot of fun.
I've been listening to Murs's album "Murs for President". Before its release I wasnt giving it as much appreciation because he was going to release it with a major label. You can also say that I called him a sell-out a few times. But now that I've been listening to it, it's still the same Murs that I love. Check out his video for "Can It Be".
Loud. com did a new interview with DJ Quik. On the interview DJ Quik leaked some information about Dr. Dre's acclaimed album "The Detox". Again I am hooked on this album even more. He also talks about Murs's album.
So today is Sunday. Last day of the weekend. I have to do some homework. I have to stop procrastinating. See y'all this week.
Do you think laughter is more satisfying with a companion? I think so. First period, I get to share my laughter with Alex and Ricardo, on a good day with another member of the media club. Being that it's so early in the morning you think laughter is the last thing on my mind but really it's the first, using to commence yet another day. Leaving 1st period I got to 2nd period, "Percussion Master" or drumline. Coming inside the class I immediately see Paul and Will. Just looking at them I laugh with them joining in confusion on why I am laughing. With Alexis, we make a smart movie, song, t.v. show, or youtube video analogy and right off we start cracking up. On a lucky Chenzo may be there and that's always a blast. 3rd period is always fun. Walking up to the class I already see Chivo, Gilbert, Ignacio, and Andrew (not in my class) and laugh it up a little till the bell rings. Inside the class I always have everyone in the class to enjoy laughter with. Even Mr. Reitz. Lunch, on some days we have those lunches where we're laughing through the whole 35 minutes but on a normal day I just enjoy and share those cute little laughs joined by saying "Oh geez..." with Tricia. 4th period, Mr. Santa-Cruz. I do not have to say more. And then I have Alex and Ricardo in there. 5th period, when Mr. Baladov feels like it he actually makes the class fun and with Ricardos smart-ass humor I always enjoy a few laughs with my fellow classmates. Once in a while Me and Will crack up some inside jokes. 6th period, Mr. Reff promised that we will be laughing in class all through this semester. He has not let us down one bit. I have enjoyed quiet a lot laughs with the other classmates in there because of Mr. Reff. 7th period, just saying "Hello" to Dr. Letter makes me laugh. His mellowness leaves you so comfortable you just have to laugh. Having to sit in the same table with Daniel always comes with a few nice little crack ups. Ending school and seeing Tricia we always claim a laughter at the same time just for the simple fact we are seeing each other again. After that is band practice and there always laughs to share there. But don't just take my word. See for yourself, see how sharing laughter feels so much better than regular ol' laughter.
Atmosphere released the video for "You" today of their album "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold". Remember those finger skateboards. Yeah, you'll be seeing a lot of that in this video. Weird because the song has nothing to do about that...
I know there can be such phrase as "I am happy again", but is that true? Can you leave happiness and come find it again. In the view of me a while ago. One day, while myspacing, my computer just brakes down on me. I tried to turn it on again but it wouldn't turn on. Frustrated at the computer I just give up and call a computer nerd from Geek Squad. I tell him my situation and he tells me that my computer is messed up. He tells me if I ever made damage to it and confidently I say no. Resuming on the problem the Geek Squad guy tells me I had to send my computer to a specialist. I send to a specialist. Thinking it was only going to take 1-2 days to fix it, turns out it took 8. During those 8 days I was so bummed. WHERE WAS I GOING TO MYSPACE FROM! The only thing that made me happy, myspace, wasn't in my reach for 8 days. But that one day I got my computer I felt so "happy again". It was a reunion to remember. But in my opinion, happiness is never gone. Even when the factors that causes happiness are gone there is always going to be some sort of amount. But when the factor is there...ones happiness can shine brighter than the morning sun.
British artist D*Face recently exhibited his showcase aPOPcalypse Now. The exhibit focused on pop culture and super heroes. Both from the Marvel and DC world.
Very nifty.
If you didn't catch it last Friday VH1 had a rockDocs on NWA. Nothing special. They said the same thing they say over and over again. They meet, they make their first album, becomes very controversial, on top of the world, another album, turns out to be not as good, group brakes up, some members go solo, some beef, Eazy-E gets aids, Eazy-E dies, all wish they could of got together for another album. Yeah same old, same old. Here's a little preview.
